ICY WEATHER LIKELY TO DELAY FLIGHTS AT WRWA Airlines Waiving Change Fees
OKLAHOMA CITY, January 11, 2017 – As Oklahoma and the metro area prepare for a winter storm that will likely bring ice and heavy rounds of rain, WRWA advises travelers to be prepared for cancellations and delays over the weekend.
Because the forecasted temperatures and path of the storm are still evolving, it is difficult to predict exactly what impact ice will have on operations at the airport. However, there is a high probability that flights will not be operating normally.
While no airlines have announced any cancellations at this point, American, Delta, Southwest and United airlines are all waiving fees to change reservations for travel scheduled on January 13 to 15. Travelers who do not want to take a chance on getting delayed by the storm are encouraged to look at alternate days to travel. Travelers should call their airline’s customer care number or visit the website to make changes.
Airport maintenance crews at Will Rogers World Airport are preparing for the anticipated winter storm and will be ready to treat the runways and taxiways when the storm hits. At this point in time, it is not anticipated that the airport will close. Even so, the airlines make the final decisions to fly or not fly in icy conditions. Most airlines will cancel or delay flights if icy conditions exist.
The airport always urges anyone traveling from WRWA to check their flight status prior to coming to the airport. Check your flight status at flyokc.com, on flightaware.com or on the airlines’ websites and social media sites.
