Planning ahead and packing properly can facilitate the screening process and ease your travel experience at the airport. Know what you can pack in your carry-on and checked baggage before arriving at the airport by reviewing the information found at TSA.gov.

Proven to be a highly effective means of detecting dangerous items such as weapons and explosives, the TSA has installed several Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) machines at OKC Airport. The machines are called millimeter wave and use harmless electromagnetic waves to detect items that could be a threat. The energy projected is thousands of times less than a cell phone transmission. These machines do not display specific images of a passenger’s body, only a generic outline that is the same for everyone.

The millimeter wave technology meets all known national and international health and safety standards. The screening is safe for all passengers, including children, pregnant women, and individuals with medical implants. AIT screening is optional; however, if a passenger chooses not to use the machine, they will receive alternative screening and may include a physical pat-down.

The procedure for using the AIT is simple: A passenger steps into the imaging portal, stands in position for a few seconds while the machine creates an image, then steps out. Should the machine detect an item concealed under a passenger’s clothing, the machine generates a generic image, similar to a gingerbread man, with a box around the area of concern. At that point, a TSA officer determines if additional screening is needed. If the machine detects no anomalies, a green box with the words “OK” appears on the screen. The entire process is conducted in the presence of the passenger.

OKC Airport has one passenger screening checkpoint located at the east side of the terminal, just past the Delta ticket counter on the ticketing level. The TSA Passenger Screening Checkpoint opens daily at 4 a.m. and closes 30 minutes after the last scheduled departure (generally 10 p.m.).

Yes, we do. If you are enrolled in the TSA’s PreCheck program, you may proceed to the dedicated PreCheck lane.  At the entrance to the line, you will show your boarding pass to the queue monitor. Once you enter the screening area, you will not have to remove your shoes, belt, or jacket, and your laptop can stay stowed.

Know before you go! Some tips to keep in mind include:

• Remember the 3-1-1 Rule: Store liquids and gels in containers of 3.4 ounces or less, then store the 3.4-ounce containers in 1 quart-sized zip-top plastic bag.  
• Remove the zip-top bag from your carry-on and place it in a screening bin.
• Remove all objects from your pockets, including non-metal objects like a wallet or a pack of gum. Place all valuables or small items inside your carry-on bag.
• Remove any laptop computers or tablets from their bags and place them into screening bins, one per bin.
• Remove your shoes, jackets, hoodies, sweaters, scarves, and belts, and put them in screening bins.
• Follow the TSA officer’s instructions.

You may transport unloaded firearms in a locked hard-sided container as checked baggage only. Declare the firearm and/or ammunition to the airline when checking your bag at the ticket counter. The container must completely secure the firearm from being accessed. Locked cases that can be easily opened are not permitted. 

Be aware that the container the firearm was in when purchased may not adequately secure the firearm when it is transported in checked baggage.

Some further tips to keep in mind when traveling with a firearm include:

• Comply with the laws concerning possession of firearms as they vary by local, state, and international governments.
• If you are traveling internationally with a firearm in checked baggage, check the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website (cbp.gov) for information and requirements prior to travel.
• Declare each firearm each time you present it for transport as checked baggage. Ask your airline about limitations or fees that may apply (see below for airline details).
• Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container and transported as checked baggage only. 
  • As defined by 49 CFR 1540.5, a loaded firearm has a live round of ammunition, or any component thereof, in the chamber or cylinder or in a magazine inserted in the firearm. 
  • For civil enforcement purposes, TSA also considers a firearm to be loaded when both the firearm and ammunition are accessible to the passenger. For example, if an individual has a firearm in accessible baggage and ammunition in his/her pocket, or any combination where the individual has access to both, the firearm is considered “loaded” for purposes of assessing a civil penalty. 
  • Only the passenger should retain the key or combination to the lock unless TSA personnel request the key to open the firearm container to ensure compliance with TSA regulations. You may use any brand or type of lock to secure your firearm case, including TSA-recognized locks.
• Bringing  an unloaded firearm with accessible ammunition to the security checkpoint carries the same civil penalty/fine as bringing a loaded firearm to the checkpoint. You may find information on civil penalties at the Civil Enforcement page.
• Firearm parts, including magazines, clips, bolts, and firing pins, are prohibited in carry-on baggage, but may be transported in checked baggage.
• Replica firearms, including firearm replicas that are toys, may be transported in checked baggage only.
• Rifle scopes are permitted in carry-on and checked baggage.

Ammunition is prohibited in carry-on baggage, but may be transported in checked baggage. Further rules and regulations to keep in mind while traveling include:

• Firearm magazines and ammunition clips, whether loaded or empty, must be securely boxed or included within a hard-sided case containing an unloaded firearm. 
  • Read the requirements governing the transport of ammunition in checked baggage as defined by 49 CFR 175.10 (a)(8).
• Small arms ammunition (up to .75 caliber and shotgun shells of any gauge) must be packaged in a fiber (such as cardboard), wood, plastic, or metal box specifically designed to carry ammunition and declared to your airline.
• Ammunition may be transported in the same hard-sided, locked case as a firearm if it has been packed as described above. However:
  • You cannot use firearm magazines or clips for packing ammunition unless they completely enclose the ammunition. 
  • Firearm magazines and ammunition clips, whether loaded or empty, must be boxed or included within a hard-sided, locked case. 
• Please check with your airline for quantity limits for ammunition.

Each airline has its own policies and procedures when it comes to traveling with pets or service animals. To ensure you have the proper documentation, carrier requirements, and passenger ticket purchased, check with the airline you will be flying to find out more about their safe pet and service animal traveling procedures.

Each year, especially around the holiday season, OKC Will Rogers International Airport, the Better Business Bureau, and the Oklahoma City Police Department try to shed some light on pet scams. Please read the information below carefully for helpful tips developed from our collaborative effort. This information could help to prevent you and others from being the victim of a pet scam.

• OKC Airport does not have a central receiving area for any animals. 
  • Pets are primarily shipped through the major airlines or private charter companies. 
  • There are no transport companies at Will Rogers who focus only on pet shipping. 
  • UPS and FedEx do not ship most animals including dogs and cats.
  • OKC Airport does not hold for pickup, quarantine, vaccinate, or provide any shipping/receiving services for any animals.

• Customers should verify shipping details.  
  • If a small animal is being shipped on a major airline, which is the most common method, the customer should be provided with an airway bill that provides specific information about the flight including the name of the airline, the flight number, time of arrival/departure, and a confirmation number.  
  • The customer should not just receive a confirmation number without airline or flight information included.  
  • If the shipper is using a private charter or private airline, the customer should get specific information as to the name of the airport, the name of the company where the plane will land (at OKC Airport, that is AAR Oklahoma and Atlantic Aviation), where the animal will be delivered, and times of departure/arrival.  
  • Animals shipped by a legitimate airline or charter company will have a very specific location for pickup. For example, a pickup with a major airline would be at that airline’s baggage claim or cargo office.

• No company should ask for additional money after the pet is shipped.  
  • All shipping costs, including insurance, vaccinations, crates, quarantine, etc., should be included in the initial shipping fees.

The following is a list of things we ask people to do when they are being scammed:

• Immediately stop payment.
  • Make contact with MoneyGram, Western Union, or the company you used to send money to the scammer and stop the payment. 
  • Report to them that you believe you have been a victim of fraud. 
  • Get as many details as possible on the scammer from them.

• Do not give the scammer any of your information.
  • Do not supply any additional information to the scammer.
  • Gather information about them instead.

• File a report with your local law enforcement (if you are outside of Oklahoma City).

• File a report with OCPD, at 405-231-2121.

• File a report with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center, at fbi.gov.

• Alert the source.
  • Contact the publication or site where you found contact information for the scammer. 
  • Let them know that this advertiser is a scammer.
  • Give them the email address of the scammer and ask them to remove the ad(s) and blacklist the scammer.

Some general tips regarding identification include:

• You must have a government-issued ID, such as your driver’s license, to pass through the checkpoint. Your name must match the exact name on your airline ticket.
• If you are traveling out of the country, including Canada and Mexico, you will need a passport.
• Children under 18 do not require identification.

Important information regarding REAL ID:

• Starting May 7, 2025, you will need a REAL ID compliant driver’s license, U.S. passport, or U.S. passport card to board commercial aircraft, even for domestic flights. 
• If you are concerned about getting a REAL ID in time for the deadline, we advise you to get a U.S. passport or U.S. passport card.
