WRWA preparing for Winter storms

National Weather Impacting OKC Flights

Maintenance crews at Will Rogers World Airport are prepared for the anticipated winter storm expected in the Oklahoma City area tonight and into tomorrow morning.  Current weather forecasts call for possibly two to four inches of snow and bitter cold temperatures.

While conditions are good currently at WRWA, travelers are seeing delays out of Oklahoma City due to this storm’s national impact.  Flights to and from Salt Lake City and Denver have been delayed because of the weather and because of de-icing operations.

Airlines at WRWA are prepared for their own de-icing operations. Please keep in mind, de-icing delays are common. Especially when an airline has multiple flights trying to depart at the same time. Your airline will work as quickly as possible to keep your flight on time, but they must ensure you have a safe flight by fully de-icing their aircraft.

It is not anticipated that the airport will close due to this storm. Airport staff will continuously monitor weather conditions throughout this evening and tomorrow morning, until the storm has passed.

Travelers should always check on the status of both arriving and departing flights prior to coming to the airport.  Two good sources for checking flights are flyokc.com or flightaware.com. For those who don’t want to take a chance on getting delayed by the storm, Alaska, American, Delta, Southwest and United are waiving change fees to/from certain cities. Please call your airline’s customer care number or visit their website to make changes to your flight.
