M.T. Berry Surrogate Trustee for the City Manager
M.T. Berry was named surrogate trustee February 12, 2019.
Mr. Berry became Assistant City Manager for the City of Oklahoma City after his retirement from the Police Department in October 2003. He currently oversees eight City departments: Airports, Parks, MAPS, Fire, Information Technology, Municipal Court, Police and General Services.
Berry started his career with the City in 1970 as a community service officer in the Police Department and was sworn in as a police officer one year later. Mr. Berry became the first black officer to lead the Police Department when he was named Oklahoma City’s 47th Police Chief on March 3, 1998.
Berry has an Associate of Science degree in police science from Oklahoma State University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from the University of Central Oklahoma. He’s also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Senior Management Institute for Police, National Executive Institute and the National Emergency Management Institute.
Berry’s family includes his wife, Dianna; children Major III, Michelle, Myrissa, Timothy and their spouses; and seven grandchildren.
